American League MVP Contenders:
by Brian Hansen

Sportsbook Online Poker Casino Gambling In this article I intend to update some of the players that look like possible American League MVP contenders through the end of July. In no particular order, here are four players you should keep your eyes on.

Alex Rodriguez

A-Rod is clearly the frontrunner for AL MVP this year with 35 homers, 102 runs batted in and a .307 batting average. As of writing this, Rodriguez is sitting on 499 career home runs. On his next home run, he will reach a milestone that should be an automatic inclusion into the Hall of Fame.

Rodriguez will be the youngest player in MLB history to accomplish this feat as he just turned 32 last week.

Magglio Ordonez

Ordonez has 15 home runs, 85 RBI's and is hitting at a .354 clip. He has more extra-base hits than any player in the American League and is tied with Florida's Dan Uggla for the most in baseball. Ordonez leads the American League in on base percentage at .430 as he trails only Barry Bonds in all of baseball. Magglio also leads the major leagues in doubles with 38 on the season. Quite possibly the most amazing stat attained by Ordonez this season is he has struck out only 48 times in more than 370 plate appearances. Ordonez needs to keep up his torrid pace if he plans on overtaking Rodriguez and winning the AL MVP award.

Dan Haren/Josh Beckett

These two are arguably the best two pitchers in all of the major leagues, but definitely the top two in the American League. If they are able to maintain their high level of play for the rest of the season, both will be in contention for AL MVP. Dan Haren sports a 12-3 record with a 2.42 ERA and a WHIP of 1.05. Haren has been scintillating at home with a 7-1 record and 2.45 ERA on the year. Josh Beckett has a 13-4 record, an ERA of 3.27 and a 1.09 WHIP. Beckett is a sparkling 6-1 with a 1.62 ERA in his road starts this season. These two will most likely be the top two candidates for the AL Cy Young award but are also top contenders for the MVP as well.

Brian Hansen has experienced a great season on the diamond but where “The Brain” really specializes is the gridiron.
